Police procedurals, legal dramas and Scandi noir. Whatever your poison, you’ve probably binged one or two TV crime<\/a> shows in your time.<\/p>\n

Line of Duty<\/a>, The Fall<\/a> and Broadchurch<\/a> are just a few of the most popular in the genre, keeping viewers gripped episode after episode with their complex conspiracies and sudden twists.<\/p>\n

But while they’re certainly deserving of the praise, sometimes the most bingeable series are those that fly under the radar, despite glowing reviews.<\/p>\n

We asked Metro<\/strong> readers to share their favourite underrated crime dramas, and these are the lesser-known series they recommend adding to your watch list…<\/p>\n

Tell us in the comments<\/span><\/span><a class=\"metro-comment-cta__button\" href=\"#metro-comments-container\">Comment Now<\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Metro readers have their say<\/h2>\n<p>One user, called Evan_Underscore, heaped praise on Mr Inbetween, an Australian TV series that follows a criminal for hire.<\/p>\n<p>‘The dialogues and the situations feel so realistic that everything feels theatrical compared to it,’ they wrote. ‘It’s also great in mixing terrible and funny in a way that they only complement each other.’<\/p>\n<p>Another user, wobbsey, recommended Giri\/Haji, a <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/bbc-2\/\">BBC<\/a> production from 2019 that is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In their glowing assessment of the series, they wrote: ‘Set in Japan and the UK. Family loyalty and conflict. Yakuza mobsters. Cops. It\u2019s suspenseful and moving. Not enough people know this show, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/galleries\/6-new-hidden-gem-shows-on-netflix-in-2025-you-havent-seen-yet-22959254\/\">under appreciated gem<\/a>.’<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, AltruisticCableCar is clearly a fan of Scandi noir, recommending three Swedish crime dramas.<\/p>\n<p>They suggested Wallander, both the original series and the British remake, though they added ‘I prefer the remake’. They went on ‘Also Glaskupan (The Glass Dome). Cruelly <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2020\/09\/10\/giri-haji-axed-by-bbc-after-one-series-despite-being-nominated-for-three-baftas-13253309\/\">axed by BBC and Netflix after just one series<\/a> (despite being nominated for three <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/baftas\/\">Baftas<\/a>), this series is a true hidden gem.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a Tokyo detective (Takehiro Hira) who is searching for his missing brother in <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\">London<\/a>’s underworld, after he became mixed up with the Yakuza, a Japanese organised crime syndicate, and accused of murder.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/techteamhost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PRI_89409124-f542.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23455542\" alt=\"Television Programme: Giri\/Haji. Sarah Weitzmann (KELLY MACDONALD) - (C) Sister Pictures - Photographer: Ludovic Robert\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Giri\/Haji was nominated for three Baftas (Picture: BBC \/ Sister Pictures)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/06\/7-netflix-thrillers-binge-loving-black-doves-22136398\/\">If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Black Doves<\/a>, which stormed up the streamer’s most-watched chart in December last year, Giri\/Haji is worth checking out, as both dramas were created by screenwriter Joe Barton.<\/p>\n<p>In a review, The New Yorker called the series ‘violently stylish’ and a ‘sexy police thriller’, while the Daily Telegraph called it ‘bold, bewitching and slightly bonkers’.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to watch:<\/strong> All eight episodes are available to stream on Netflix.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wallander<\/h2>\n<p>The BBC’s Wallander stars <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/kenneth-branagh\/\">Kenneth Branagh<\/a> as a Swedish detective who investigates a series of gruesome murders. <\/p>\n<p>The series, which first aired on BBC One in 2008 and is an adaptation of the mystery novels by Henning Mankell, has been hailed as ‘wonderful’ and ‘terrific’, with plenty of praise for Branagh as the lead.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/techteamhost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/AN_99562582-320b.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23454335\" alt=\"Television Programme: Wallander with Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander. Kenneth Branagh is undoubtedly one of our finest actors’.<\/p>\n<p>And Anne Norton added: ‘Wallander was terrific!!! My first Swedish crime show, and it didn’t disappoint. Kenneth Branagh’s acting is just outstanding’.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/global\/banijay-wallander-reboot-gustaf-skarsgard-1236377136\/\">Variety<\/a> reported that Wallander is set to return to screens in a reboot, which will see detective Kurt Wallander, now 42, struggle to get his life under control, having separated from his wife and become estranged from his daughter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to watch:<\/strong> Series one to four are available for free on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Glass Dome<\/h2>\n<p>A much more recent release, The Glass Dome (Glaskupan in Swedish) landed on Netflix in April this year.<\/p>\n<p>The six-part series follows a criminologist (L\u00e9onie Vincent) who returns to her small hometown and \u2018becomes wrapped up in the investigation of a missing girl and its haunting similarities to her own childhood abduction\u2019.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/techteamhost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_247868973-3674.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22927471\" alt=\"Glaskupan. Courtesy of Netflix ?? 2024\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The Glass Dome featured on Netflix’s most-watched chart in April (Picture: Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Perhaps less of a hidden gem than the others on this list, it quickly climbed the ranks on Netflix to peak at number two on the streamer’s weekly round-up of most-watched shows.<\/p>\n<p>But, as non-English language shows can sometimes go overlooked by British viewers, The Glass Dome remains unfamiliar to some.<\/p>\n<p>Don’t let the language barrier put you off, though, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/17\/netflix-viewers-rush-binge-chilling-swedish-crime-drama-climbing-charts-22923817\/\">it’s been praised as ‘gripping’<\/a> and ‘tanatalising’ by critics, while viewers have called it ‘haunting’ and ‘brilliant’.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to watch:<\/strong> Stream all six episodes on Netflix.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u00c5re Murders<\/h2>\n<p>Another hit from Sweden, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/galleries\/9-shows-you-need-to-watch-on-netflix-if-you-loved-the-are-murders-22559737\/\">The \u00c5re Murders<\/a> is based on a popular series of books by author Viveca Sten.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/04\/netflix-just-days-away-dropping-next-nordic-noir-obsession-22495846\/\">The Nordic noir<\/a> follows a detective who has been suspended from duty (Carla Sehn), seeking solace in the idyllic but eerie ski resort town of \u00c5re. But she soon becomes wrapped up in investigating the mysterious disappearance of a young woman.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"323\" src=\"https:\/\/techteamhost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_240363474-0afa.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23454351\" alt=\"The ?re Murders The Are Murders ??remorden. Courtesy of Netflix ?? 2024\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Scandi noir has proved popular among Metro readers (Picture: Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Netflix subscribers clearly love a Scandi drama, as this series achieved <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/21\/hit-series-takes-netflix-storm-11-000-000-views-one-week-22601430\/\">a whopping 11,000,000 views in one week<\/a> when it landed in February this year.<\/p>\n<p>On Rotten Tomatoes, critics praised the drama as well as its Scandinavian setting.<\/p>\n<p>Common Sense Media’s review read: ‘This is an edge-of-your-seat crime series that spans two separate murders in one small, snowy, Swedish town.’ <\/p>\n<p>And Decider wrote: ‘The \u00c5re Murders features all the hallmarks of the Nordic noir genre\u2026 throw in some fantastic location shots of Sweden\u2019s mountainous north, and we\u2019re all the way in on this investigation.’<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to watch:<\/strong> Stream all five episodes on Netflix.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Damages<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/glenn-close\/\">Glenn Close<\/a> stars as Patty Hewes, a brilliant but ruthless lawyer whose life is changed forever when she hires a young, ambitious prot\u00e9g\u00e9 (Rose Byrne).<\/p>\n<p>Though the series focuses on the complex relationship between the two professionals, it also charts the cases they work on \u2014 taking a three-pronged approach as a legal thriller, gripping murder mystery and an adrenaline-fueled character study.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/techteamhost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_72340215-5eb2-e1750325686928.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23454357\" alt=\"Editorial use only. Characters and actors are admirable and realistic. The storylines [are] so enjoyable.
